Half moon light

She stepped out of the empty house
Filled with ghosts and memories
Called by a waxing half moon
Shining softly beyond fleecy clouds

The blue mountain stood watch
Man-made stars twinkled in hollows
The gentlest of breezes ruffled
The bougainvillea paper tears
And gathered them under the rosemary

Barefoot in the grass
She listened to the night’s music:
Owls calling invitations through the woods
Frogs croaking their gossip
Dogs barking warnings and worries

She stood aching with grief, beseeching
For an elusive peace and quietude
For an oasis of relevance in her wilderness
Anchored in the here and now

The robe untied and fell with a hush
She reached for the unreachable
Arms stretched to hold an indifferent universe
Hands open to gather moonlight and stardust

A whisper of leaves carrying lavender
Brushed her upturned face,
Wrapped around her throat
And lowered her arms to let the summer breeze
Skim her shoulders and soothe her skin
With a breath of jasmine and feathers of rustling sounds

Standing in a moonbeam her body hummed and quivered
Naked as the day she was born and became other

A star blinked when it heard a sob.

Of course they do. My dog and the neighbor’s play “You did” “did not” “did too”, etc… until I am ready to throw arsenic over the fence. OK not arsenic…valium. yeah. valium.

Before long this moments will be distant memories and when she stands naked in the moonlight it will be on a joyous night filled with cricket sounds and full of life
